Russia to build moon rocket

Big News Network.com     Thursday 19th October, 2006  (UPI)

Russia is building a new spaceship that can fly to the moon.

Nikolai Sevastyanov, head of Russia's Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, told RIA Novosti the final design of a modernized spaceship has been given the working name of Soyuz-K.

Sevastyanov said the new spaceship is being designed so it can be launched both from the Baikonur space center and equatorial Kourou space center, RIA Novosti reported.

He said Russia plans to conduct its first manned flight around the moon in 2011-2012.

I suppose somehow this is good news.  Millions and millions of dollars to keep up with the neighbors or something?  I just don't understand it.  We all do it I guess. I go to a movie and spend $10 or more when I could use it for the poor children in the streets.  Who am I to critcise a nation that wants to fly to the moon and ignore thousands or more living in sewers or abandoned buildings or in poor families.

It would be easy for me to throw up my hands and say, "If they don't care I don't care."  If they don't take care of their own children why should I worry about it?

Then I remember the lost looks and the sweet innocence I have seen in their eyes.  They, the children of the world, are the victims.  Who will be their advocate?   Who will sacrifice a few pennies or programs?  Who will finally say enough is enough.
