It was almost four years ago when I googled "plant growing through sidewalk" for a possible name of our ministry. I was thinking of the boy who froze to death in a doorway and how people just walked by like he was yesterdays news. The first plant that came up was this weed - Shepherd's Purse. I began searching for this plant and the first one was found in my own front yard. Now, every year it faithfully grows up through the cracks and crevices of my driveway.
Today I was outside and noticed this little plant sprouting up next to the house. It is kind of like seeing a rainbow for me. It is a symbolic reminder of hope for those forgotten. It's heart shaped seed pods contain hundreds of seeds. I still believe in their potential to survive and help others.
Two weeks from today our team will be in Kiev, Ukraine. The twelve acres is covered with towering Pines and lots of overgrown grass. And there is the errant bit of Shepherd's Purse among the lot. Its all about the Shepherd's Purse. It is His purse - not ours - which will open to the hearts of the children in Kiev.
